Gas Bill Calculator — SNGPL / SSGC
Enter your gas consumption in cubic meters to estimate your monthly bill. A typical family spends Rs. 200-500 in summer (cooking only) and Rs. 2,000-8,000+ in winter (heater + geyser). See how to read your gas bill for charge details.

Gas Slab Rates in Pakistan — Reference Table
Gas pricing in Pakistan uses a progressive slab system similar to electricity — higher consumption means higher per-unit rates. OGRA (Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority) sets the rates, applied uniformly by both SNGPL and SSGC.
| Slab (m³/month) | Rate (Rs/m³) | Typical Use | Monthly Bill Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–0.5 | Rs. 100–120 | Minimal cooking (1-2 burners) | Rs. 50–100 |
| 0.5–2 | Rs. 120–150 | Regular cooking (family of 4-5) | Rs. 200–400 |
| 2–5 | Rs. 150–200 | Cooking + water heater | Rs. 600–1,500 |
| 5–10 | Rs. 200–300 | Heavy winter use (heater + geyser) | Rs. 2,000–5,000 |
| 10+ | Rs. 300–400+ | Multiple heaters + geyser | Rs. 5,000–15,000+ |
Rates above are approximate and updated periodically by OGRA. Additional charges include GIDC (Gas Infrastructure Development Cess), GST (17%), and meter rent.
Seasonal Consumption Comparison
Gas bills in Pakistan show the most dramatic seasonal variation of any utility — winter bills routinely run 4-10x summer amounts. Understanding this pattern helps you budget for the December-February spike.
| Season | Typical Consumption | Main Usage | Avg Bill (Family of 5) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summer (Apr-Sep) | 0.5–2 m³ | Cooking only | Rs. 200–500 |
| Mild winter (Oct-Nov, Mar) | 2–4 m³ | Cooking + occasional geyser | Rs. 600–1,500 |
| Peak winter (Dec-Feb) | 5–12 m³ | Cooking + geyser + heater | Rs. 2,000–8,000+ |

How Your Gas Bill Is Calculated
The gas meter records consumption in cubic meters (m³). Your bill layers: base gas charge (units × slab rate), GIDC (a per-unit government surcharge), GST at 17%, and meter rent (Rs. 20-50/month fixed). Unlike electricity, gas has no FPA equivalent — the rates are more stable month to month, with the main variability coming from your consumption volume.
The biggest bill driver is the geyser. A standard gas geyser running 30 minutes daily consumes as much gas as an entire month of cooking. In winter, this single appliance can triple or quadruple your bill. Solar water heaters eliminate this cost entirely during 8-10 months of the year.
Tips for Reducing Your Gas Bill
- Solar water heater — eliminates geyser gas consumption. Cost: Rs. 30,000-80,000. Pays for itself in 1-2 winters
- Instant geyser — heats water on demand instead of maintaining a full tank. Uses 30-50% less gas than storage geysers
- Room insulation — curtains, door seals, and window insulation reduce heating needs significantly
- Pressure cooker — cooks food 3x faster, using a third of the gas of open-pot cooking
Gas leak safety: If you smell gas, evacuate immediately and call 1199. Do not use any electrical switches. See gas leakage emergency guide.
Gas Bill Calculator — Seasonal Questions
Three factors combine: (1) geyser consumption adds 3-8 m³/month, (2) room heaters add 2-5 m³/month, (3) higher consumption pushes you into more expensive slab rates. A family using 1 m³ in summer might use 8-12 m³ in winter — an 8-12x volume increase that also triggers higher per-unit rates.
A standard storage geyser running 30 minutes daily consumes approximately 2-4 m³ per month — roughly Rs. 500-1,500 worth of gas depending on the slab. Instant geysers use 30-50% less by heating only the water you actually use.
Base rates set by OGRA are largely similar for both companies. Minor differences may exist in surcharges. See SNGPL vs SSGC comparison for detailed differences.
