NDMA Warns of Heavy Rains, Flood Risk in Azad Kashmir
Authorities have issued a weather alert for Azad Kashmir, warning residents to brace for heavy rainfall over the next 12 to 24 hours. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said the downpour could trigger flash floods and landslides in multiple areas.
High-Risk Zones Identified
According to NDMA officials, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Sharda, Haveli, and Kotli are expected to see the heaviest rain. Low-lying and urban neighborhoods are particularly vulnerable to flooding, while mountain communities face the added threat of landslides.
Public Safety Advisory
Residents near rivers and streams have been urged to remain vigilant and prepared for a sudden surge in water levels. The NDMA has called on local administrations to be on high alert and has advised the public to avoid traveling through or lingering in risky areas until conditions improve.
The warning comes as Pakistan continues to grapple with extreme weather patterns, which have intensified in recent years, raising concerns about disaster preparedness in vulnerable regions like Azad Kashmir.
