Heavy Rains in KP and Punjab Turn Fatal: Roof Collapses Kill Five
Lakki Marwat & Talagang — A fresh wave of monsoon showers wreaked havoc in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab on Thursday, claiming at least five lives in two separate roof collapse incidents.
In Lakki Marwat’s Sarai Naurang area, relentless overnight rain proved too much for a weathered mud house near Qila Ground. The weakened structure gave way early in the morning, burying an entire family beneath the debris.
Local rescue teams, with help from nearby residents, pulled out the victims — a teenage boy, his mother, and grandmother. Tragically, doctors at the hospital later confirmed that all three had succumbed to their injuries before arrival. The deceased were identified as 15-year-old Shaukatullah and his two close relatives. Authorities attributed the collapse to the fragile condition of the home, made worse by persistent rainfall.
“The roof simply couldn’t handle the weight of water after days of rain,” a rescue official stated. “The structure was already compromised.”
Meanwhile, in Punjab’s Talagang district, a separate tragedy unfolded at a rice warehouse. While workers were busy with their usual packing routine, part of the roof suddenly caved in. Two men, 60-year-old Muhammad Khaliq and 40-year-old Shahbaz, were buried under the debris and died at the scene. A third worker, 20-year-old Muhammad Ali, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a city hospital for treatment.
These incidents highlight a recurring seasonal danger in Pakistan, where under-maintained buildings in rural and industrial areas often collapse during the monsoon. Despite yearly casualties, structural safety and inspection in vulnerable regions remain a low priority.
Emergency services have once again urged residents, especially in older homes or informal workplaces, to remain cautious during the rainy season and report any visible structural damage before conditions deteriorate further.
