Two Killed in Separate Faisalabad Encounters; Former SHO Evades Arrest in Murder Case
Faisalabad police say two wanted suspects — including an alleged serial child rapist — were killed in separate encounters on Tuesday, while a high-profile raid to arrest a former station house officer in a murder case ended without success.
Serial Abuse Suspect Shot Dead During CCD Operation
Authorities in Faisalabad’s Lyallpur Division report that 36-year-old Mohsin Yasin, a refrigerator repairman accused of sexually abusing multiple minors, was killed during a Crime Control Department (CCD) operation.
Police allege Yasin not only assaulted boys and girls but also filmed the abuse to blackmail his victims. Arrested just a day earlier, he allegedly broke free from custody on Tuesday.
According to the CCD, Yasin fled into a house on Satiana Road, where he and unidentified accomplices opened fire on pursuing officers. The exchange ended with Yasin critically wounded — police claim his injuries came from his own accomplices’ gunfire before they fled. He later died in Allied Hospital.
Cattle Theft Gang Member Also Killed
In a separate incident near Khushal Chowk, police say suspected cattle thief Mohsin Iqbal Cheema was shot dead under similar circumstances.
Cheema, from Sarwar Colony, was reportedly part of a gang behind dozens of livestock thefts across the region. Stolen animals were allegedly sold in markets in Chiniot and Gojra. As with the earlier case, police maintain Cheema’s fatal injuries were caused by shots fired by his fleeing partners.
High-Profile Murder Case: Former SHO Still at Large
The CCD also attempted to capture former Railway Road police SHO Qalab Abbas Niazi in Faisalabad on Tuesday, but the operation came up empty.
Niazi is accused of involvement in the January 2025 kidnapping and killing of Ghulam Rasool, a Kasur resident whose body was discovered near Samundri. Another suspect in the case — Civil Lines SHO Zeeshan Khalid Randhawa — was arrested earlier.
Sources say Niazi, currently posted to police lines, has been absent from duty since August 7. Police insist he was not present at the location targeted in Tuesday’s raid.
