First Winter Snowfall Blankets Murree, while Heavy Rain Hits Mianwali and Rawalpindi

While many cities in Pakistan’s Punjab province are grappling with dense smog, Murree, known as “Malika-e-Kohsar,” witnessed its first snowfall of the winter season, delighting visitors after the provincial government announced four holidays.

The first winter snowfall has transformed Murree, drawing tourists to the bustling Mall Road, where tea and coffee shops were abuzz with activity.

Meanwhile, heavy rain in Mianwali caused streets to flood, turning them into makeshift ponds. Rawalpindi also experienced a drop in temperature due to heavy rain and hailstorms, adding to the wintry chill.

The district administration and Rescue 1122 Abbottabad issued a cautionary alert, advising travelers to exercise vigilance. They emphasized the importance of using fog lights and having ample warm clothing in vehicles.

Drivers were advised to keep their indicators and hazard lights on during severe weather conditions and to park their vehicles in secure locations.

Rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snow over mountains were expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, and upper/central Punjab in the next twelve hours. Isolated hailstorms may also occur during this period. Fog and smog were likely to appear in some plain areas of Punjab during the morning hours, while dry weather was expected in the rest of the country.
