After weeks of distress caused by Ravi River flooding, Park View Society residents gathered Saturday evening for a ceremony announcing a long-term solution to protect their community. The event, led by politician and developer Abdul Aleem Khan, unveiled a 30-foot embankment project designed to shield the housing society from future disasters.
A Permanent Barrier in 100 Days
Aleem Khan revealed that construction of the embankment will begin immediately, with completion targeted within 100 days. Stretching behind Park View along the Ravi River, the structure will not only act as a flood defense but also double as a recreational space, featuring a jogging track, landscaped green belt, and restricted access for residents. Surveillance cameras and security staff will be deployed to ensure safety.
PKR 1 Billion Relief Package
Acknowledging the severe financial losses suffered by residents, Khan announced a PKR 1 billion compensation fund. Payments, he said, will be based on verified damages and delivered directly to each affected household. He urged honesty in loss declarations, stressing that relief should reach only those who truly suffered.
Infrastructure Gains Beyond Flood Relief
In addition to flood defenses, Khan confirmed approval of a dedicated LESCO grid station for Park View — a development that could significantly improve power stability for the area, which has long struggled with outages.
Khan’s Personal and Political Reflections
The address was not without emotion. Recalling the chaos during the flood, Khan criticized social media influencers for exploiting the tragedy for attention while residents struggled. He dismissed predictions of Park View’s decline and used a well-known line from the Punjabi classic Maula Jutt to signal defiance against critics: “Molay na maray, mola nahi marda.”
Khan also underscored his personal bond with the housing society, pointing out that his parents are buried there — a connection, he said, that makes the project deeply personal.
Credit to His Team
Before closing, he commended his team for standing shoulder-to-shoulder with residents during the floods, praising their commitment to relief work and emergency support.
Looking Forward
Khan concluded with a pledge that Park View Society would not just recover but emerge stronger and safer, transforming the crisis into an opportunity for resilience and growth.
