Relentless downpours have unleashed flash floods across Buner district, forcing residents to flee their homes as rising waters swamp neighborhoods, farmland, and marketplaces.
Local mosques broadcast urgent warnings, urging families to seek higher ground as floodwaters surged into Pir Baba Bazaar and nearby residential areas. The district’s administration has declared a high alert, with emergency crews working through the night to evacuate those at risk.
Rescue Operations in Full Swing
Deputy Commissioner Kashif Qayyum confirmed that rescue teams are operating in the hardest-hit regions, with temporary shelters prepared for those displaced.
“The situation is critical in Batai and Qadr Nagar, where water levels are rising rapidly and pushing toward Pir Baba Khoor,” Qayyum said, adding that the flooding has already reached road level behind the main market.
Authorities are monitoring water flow closely and say government accommodations will be provided to families unable to return home.
Crops and Roads Suffer Heavy Damage
The flooding has not only uprooted families but also caused significant destruction to infrastructure and agriculture. Roads connecting several localities have been cut off, hampering rescue efforts, while farmers face heavy losses as orchards and standing crops have been destroyed.
Residents reported that more than five hours of uninterrupted rain left many stranded, with some describing the atmosphere as “chaotic and terrifying.”
Local officials warn that with rains continuing, the situation could deteriorate further, and they’re urging residents to remain alert and follow evacuation instructions.
