Islamabad: Former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday filed an intra-court appeal against the special court set up to try him for treason in Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The petition challenged the decision of IHC Judge Riaz Ahmed Khan who had dismissed all three petitions by former military ruler against the constitution of special court, appointment of its judges and the selection of a special prosecutor.
The latest petition, filed by his lawyers Advocate Faisal Pervez and Khalid Ranjha, alleged that the formation a special court is a combined conspiracy by ex-chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, hence it should be barred from functioning.
The petition also stated that Musharraf should be given a chance of fair trial and his trial should be conducted in a military court.
Announcing the on Musharraf’s petition on December 23, judge Riaz Ahmed Khan had declared his requests inadmissible, saying the formation of the court is according to constitution it can initiate the treason trial of former military strongman.
