Government Unlikely to Last Longer: Imran Khan

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has said that the federal government seems unable to last longer down to its failure to fulfill the promises it made during the election campaign.

Speaking to media reporters at his residence here on Saturday, PTI chief said the politicians whose assets are abroad could not be expected to preserve the interests of their masses and secure their country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He questioned if dual-nationality holders could be declared ineligible then why can’t those who keep their wealth out of their country.

PTI chief retreated that the judiciary and election commission failed to play impartial role in the general elections but despite having reservations, his party accepted the results.

He said the protests against inflation have not been ended but will be widened throughout the country and for this alliance could be made with other parties including Tahir-ul-Qadri’s Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), which will a mass demonstration against inflation, unemployment and corruption in Lahore on Sunday.

The cricketer-turned-politician expressed disappointment over Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s statement that the PTI’s protests against drones and the blockade of NATO shipments are isolating Pakistan, saying he question premier that had PML-N not signed the parliamentary resolutions against drone strikes wherein the blockade of Nato supplies was distinctively mentioned.

PTI chief alleged PML-N of adopting a dual-policy over drone issue like preceding Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) government. He said the its not isolation but the worry of their assets overseas that has made rulers apprehensive.

He said during All Parties Conference (APC) when his party questioned Prime Minister that what would be course of action if US sabotaged the peace process with Taliban by coducting drone strikes, he had assured that his government will  not only raise the issue with superpower but will take the issue to the United Nations.

He said that the latest speech of Asif Ali Zardari in Garhi Khuda Bux on the sixth death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto has exposed the deal between PPP and PML-N as both seek to safeguard their particularistic interests.

Imran Khan said that PTI will continue the blockade of NATO shipments until the federal government got a solid assurance of a halt of drone attacks from US.

He further said that if government implements the mandate of APC, the isolation of US would materialize but unfortunately Nawaz Sharif is double crossing masses over the issue.
