Tens of millions of Pakistani music lovers have their pulses racing as Geo Entertainment is going to air the first episode of country’s biggest music reality show – Pakistan Idol – tonight (Friday) at 09:00pm.
The hotly-anticipated music show will be televised on Fridays and Sundays. The show will be hosted by Mohib Mirza and three judges of the contest are veteran actress Bushra Ansari and renowned pop singers Hadiqa Kiani and Ali Azmat.
From September 15, when Geo TV announced the competition, the youth demonstrated their huge appreciation for it and avidly participated in the auditions. During the auditions, a panel of judges discovered the most exceptional unsigned solo recording artists, aged between 15 to 30 years, to bring them on the mainstream.
The candidates chosen by judges during the auditions will proceed to the live shows. The finalists will then have to appeal the television audience for votes and contestants with minimum number of votes will be out of fray.
At grand finale of the show two or three finalists will compete and the contestant who will receive the largest percentage of votes will be adjudged winner. The winner will be awarded a hefty amount of prize money, and recording contract in addition to the title of ‘Pakistan Idol’.
Geo Television Network launched ‘Pakistan Idol’ in association with Fremantle Media, an international television content and production subsidiary of Europe’s leading entertainment company RTL Group.
Television’s biggest ‘Star’ maker reality show has arrived in Pakistan after enthralling a gigantic 6.5 billion viewers in more than 150 countries across the globe for over a decade.
The show was initially broadcasted as the British television series Pop Idol in 2001. Poland was first to adopt the Idols. American Idol was begin in 2002 and has since successfully completed 13 seasons. The highly-rated show made inroads to India in 2004 and till now its six seasons have been aired from Sony TV.
