General Aslam’s resignation came less than a day after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appointed Lt General Raheel Sharif, who was third on the seniority list, as Army Chief and Lt General Rashad Mehmood, the second most-senior officer after Haroon Aslam, as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
He silently protested over his disregard by not attending Prime Minister’s dinner on Wednesday night and resignation means that he also won’t attend the change of command ceremony, scheduled to be held at GHQ tomorrow.
