LONDON: Malala Yousafzai, The Pakistani education activist who has become an icon for girl’s education after she survived an assassination attempt by Taliban militants has been declared as recipient of Ambassador of Conscience Award by Amnesty International (AI). Ambassador of Conscience is most prestigious award given by rights group.
Malala Yousafzai will share the award with renowned American signer and rights activist Harry Belafonte at a ceremony scheduled to be held in Dublin, Ireland on Tuesday evening. Malala will receive her award from Bono, the front man of Irish band U2 while Roger Waters of the British band Pink Floyd will confer the award upon Mr. Belafonte.
Ambassador of Conscience Award is conferred upon individuals with significant contributions in promoting and enhancing the cause of human rights.
“Our two new Ambassadors of Conscience are different from each other in many ways, but they share a dedication to the fight for human rights everywhere and for all,” A statement by Amnesty International’s secretary general Salil Shetty read.
