Robin Van Persie’s Penalty Help United Beat 10-Man Palace


Manchester United new boss David Moyes earned first home victory Saturday afternoon after his side beat 10-man Crystal Palace thanks to goals from Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney.

Manchester United went in front in the last moments of opening interval when Robin van Persie netted a penalty to score first Premier League goal against Crystal Palace, while Rooney sealed the triumph with ten minutes remaining in the injury time.

Man United boss made four alterations in the team who had faced a terrible defeat at the hands of Liverpool, the leading change was Wayne’s return to starting line-up. On the other hand, there was only on change on Palace’s team that beat Sunderland 3-1 in last EPL outing, with latest signing Adrian Mariappa replaced Joel Ward.

Moyes’ men had a golden opportunity to double their lead in just after restart as Young found a brilliant pass but he sent the ball towards Speroni. United sealed the victory in the final minutes of game with Rooney’s first goal of the season.

Crystal Palace are now winless against Manchester United since last 11 League matches, with facing nine defeats. Their last League victory against Saturday’s rivals came on May 11th 1991.
