PTI Issues White Paper over Rigging in Elections

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued a 2000 page whitepaper over alleged rigging in general elections held on May 11, 2013. PTI has always maintained that general elections were massively rigged and Returning Officers (ROs) played a pivotal role in rigging process.

Addressing a heavily attended press conference, PTI Chairman said that his party was ready for elections but wasn’t ready for assuming that elections are being held under watchful eye of independent judiciary, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and a vibrant media.

PTI Chief claimed that at least one RO has confessed to corruption during the electoral process. He said that PTI is not the only political party which has casted doubts over transparency of elections. Nearly 400 petitions were filed in election tribunals over rigging claims out of which 64 were filed by PTI candidates.

Imran Khan further added that PTI admitted the election results only to ensure continuity of democracy in the country. He said that his party has filed a petition in Supreme Court seeking Biometric verification of ballot papers in four constituencies to gauge level of transparency during general elections.

PTI Chairman seized opportunity to warn ECP regarding conduct of by-elections. He said that it is constitutional responsibility of ECP to hold free and fair elections and commission will itself be responsible for the consequences in case it failed to do so.
