Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has officially nominated former Sindh Governor Mamnoon Hussain as its candidate for the presidential election, scheduled to be held on August 6.
Hussain will submit his nomination papers on Wednesday.
Pakistan People Party (PPP) – the largest opposition party in the lower house of parliament – has nominated Senator Raza Rabbani, who will be supported by Awami National Party (ANP) and Balochistan National Party (BNP).
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has named Justice (retd) Wajiuddin Ahmed as their candidate for the presidential election.
The polling for the slot of president will take place on August 6 while the results will be announced on August 7. The newly-elected president will take oath after September 8 following the conclusion incumbent President Asif Ali Zardari’s tenure.
This is the first time in the 67-year history of the country that the presidential elections are taking place under the existence of president.
