Pervez Khattak sworn in as KPK Chief Minister

PESHAWAR: Newly elected Chief Minister of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa has taken oath of office in Peshawar today. Oath taking ceremony was held in Governor’s house Peshawar where KPK Governor Engineer Shaukatullah Khan administered oath. He was elected as 19th Chief Minister of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa after obtaining 84 votes against 37 votes of his opponent Maulana Lutaf-ur-Rehman. Maulana was joint candidate of JUI (F) and PML (N).

Two senior ministers Siraj-ul-Haq of Jamat-i-Islami (JI) and Sikandar Sherpao of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) also took oath as senior ministers in the same oath taking ceremony.

Senior leaders of ruling coalition which consists of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Jamaate-e-Islami (JI) and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) also attended the oath taking ceremony.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) arose as major party in KPK assembly after winning nearly 50% of general seats in May 11 elections. PTI entered into an alliance with JI and QWP to form government in the province. After long sessions of consultations within the party and with coalition partners PTI nominated Pervez Khattak for the post of Chief Minister.

Pervez Khattak has promised to make KPK a corruption free province. He said that his government will have a zero tolerance policy against corruption. He further promised that all provincial resources will be subject to judicial use and will only be used for public welfare.
