Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has formally announced to shut down Mobile Number Portability (PMN). A notification has been issued to all cellular operators in the regard. MNP was a facility created to facilitate Mobile phone subscribers to change their network without changing number. The decision was taken in a meeting held in Ministry of interior. Interior minister Rehman Malik chaired the meeting.
Ministry of Interior has also directed PTA to lift ban over YouTube, sources privy to the situation told Pakistan Tribune. PTA has also been asked to block unregistered SIMs on permanent basis. Use of unregistered mobile connections is a major factor in continued wave of terrorism in Pakistan.
